Junior Athletic Development Classes
Our Athletic Development classes at the Liam Kelleher Tennis Academy (LKTA) cater to two age groups: 5-8 years and 8-12 years. Each 45-minute session is designed to enhance fundamental movement skills and overall athleticism, with a strong emphasis on speed, strength, and conditioning tailored to tennis movements. Sessions take place in various settings, including the tennis court, track, and outdoor gym or park, providing diverse and engaging training experiences.
Class Schedule:
• Mondays: 5:15 PM - 6:00 PM (Ages 5-8)
• Wednesdays: 5:15 PM - 6:00 PM (Ages 8-12)
• Saturdays:
• 1:00 PM - 1:45 PM (Ages 5-8)
• 2:00 PM - 2:45 PM (Ages 8-12)
For Ages 5-8: In this dynamic class, children will develop essential movement patterns such as running, jumping, throwing, and catching while incorporating tennis-specific skills. Activities will focus on enhancing coordination, balance, agility, strength, and speed—all crucial for effective tennis performance. Young athletes will engage in fun games and drills designed to improve their speed, including sprinting exercises, agility ladders, and reaction drills that mimic on-court situations. Some activities will take place on the tennis court for basic racket handling techniques, while others on the track will enhance speed and agility. Additional exercises in the park will promote overall fitness. Our experienced coaches, including head coach Carlos and assistant coach Harvey, will create a positive environment that fosters teamwork, confidence, and a love for physical activity. A yoga segment will also be included to promote flexibility, body awareness, and relaxation, helping children cultivate focus both on and off the court. For Ages 8-12: As children move into this age group, classes will continue to emphasize strength and conditioning exercises to enhance tennis performance, with a specific focus on speed development. Sessions will incorporate sport-specific drills that improve power, speed, and endurance, including explosive starts, sprinting techniques, and interval training. Activities will be structured on the tennis court for skill drills, on the track for advanced agility and footwork training, and in the outdoor gym or park for functional strength-building exercises. Young athletes will work on their acceleration and deceleration mechanics, helping them become quicker and more efficient movers on the court. Participants will also learn basic training principles to optimize their performance and minimize injury risk. A certified yoga instructor will lead sessions focused on enhancing flexibility, breath control, and mental focus, equipping young athletes with valuable skills to elevate their tennis game and overall athletic performance. All classes are led by experienced coaches Carlos and Harvey, who prioritize safety, positive reinforcement, and inclusivity, ensuring that every child feels welcome and supported. Whether your child is a budding tennis player or new to sports, our Athletic Development classes provide the perfect environment for them to thrive, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love for fitness and tennis.
